Please call or email Dr. Heintzelman so she can answer your questions based on your unique presenting concerns. Common questions include:

Insurance and Rates:

Dr. Heintzelman is an in-network provider for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (BCBS of Kansas City) and United Healthcare.  Please bring your Blue KC member ID number to your first session.

For all other insurance companies, services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Every company and plan varies. Prior to your first session, it will be helpful for you to ask your insurance company the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits and a mental health deductible?
  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • Do I need a referral from my primary care physician in order to get insurance coverage?

Current trends in managed care tend to uniformly place restrictions on reimbursement for mental health services, regardless of recommendations.  Dr. Heintzelman’s time is best spent providing individualized services of the highest quality and confidentiality, while minimizing unnecessary bureaucratic details or delays in treatment. Thus, like many mental health clinics across the country, at this time Dr. Heintzelman does not bill insurance except for BCBS of Kansas City and United Healthcare. She is not a participating provider for other insurance plans. Dr. Heintzelman is a licensed psychologist considered an “Out of Network” provider, and cannot guarantee that insurance companies will reimburse any or all expenses for direct or supervised services. However, Dr. Heintzelman will provide you with an invoice for you to submit to insurance on your own should you choose to do so.  She will also gladly provide brief summaries of the recommended evidenced based treatments and clinical rationale for her treatment plans. While many patients are successful in seeking reimbursement for at least a portion of their therapy fees, please remember that reimbursement is considered a matter between you and your insurance company. Always check with them directly for questions about your coverage.
